You can check availability and book directly on our website at apolicar.co.nz/book. Select your pick-up location, preferred dates, and vehicle to confirm your reservation in real time. You will receive a booking confirmation and pre-arrival instructions by email and WhatsApp.
We currently operate from four airports across New Zealand: Queenstown Airport (ZQN), Christchurch International Airport, Auckland International Airport (AKL), and Wellington International Airport. One-way rentals between cities are also available. We might be able to help with other locations and itineraries, please contact us on WhatsApp to discuss.
Yes. One-way rentals are available on popular routes including Queenstown to Christchurch, Christchurch to Queenstown, and Auckland to Wellington. See our road trip guides for recommended itineraries.
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak ski season (June-September) and the summer holiday period (December-February). Our premium fleet is limited and high demand periods sell out quickly.
Yes — we offer valet-style delivery at major FBOs in Queenstown, Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington. Your luxury SUV will be waiting at the terminal, ready for a seamless arrival and departure experience.
Yes, we can deliver your rental vehicle directly to your hotel, Airbnb, or private accommodation in the local area for added convenience. This service ensures your SUV is waiting for you exactly where you need it. Please note that an additional charge may apply depending on the location.
PICK-UP & RETURN
When you exit the terminal you go right and walk to the end of the terminal, you cross the road and the crossing before the roundabout and the vehicle will be parked. Please refer to WhatsApp or your email for detailed pick up instructions for your rental. Do not attempt to pick up from our office please, as the cars are not stored there.

It is the very first right after going through the last roundabout at the airport. It isn’t sign posted. The keycard in the dashboard will open the barrier. If it doesn’t open, please just move a little closer.

Yes. Every vehicle in our fleet is a full 4WD SUV, purpose-built for New Zealand's varied terrain - from city driving to icy mountain roads and gravel back-country tracks.
Yes. The Land Rover Defender 130 is available in an 8-seat configuration, making it perfect for large families or groups. It also offers the largest boot space in our fleet.
The Land Rover Defender 130 (8-seater) is our most popular choice for families. It combines genuine 4WD capability with 8-seat capacity, generous luggage space, and premium Land Rover comfort and technology. It is the ultimate luxury minivan alternative.
All the vehicles we have in our fleet are listed here. We exclusively have Porsche, Land Rover and Range Rover 4WD SUVs - we currently do not have any other vehicles or brands like Toyota, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz in our fleet.
The Defender 110 is a 5-seater with a sportier, more compact profile - ideal for couples or small groups.
The Defender 130 is the long-wheelbase version with 8 seats and a significantly larger boot, better suited to families or groups with more luggage.
INSURANCE & LIABILITY
Yes, all our rental agreements include full insurance. The default insurance excess (also known as maximum liability) is NZD$6,000+GST (sales tax) for drivers 25+.
You can reduce this to NZD$0 (sales tax) for an additional charge per day.
Drivers under the age of 25 can not reduce their excess.
You cannot provide your own insurance, as we must use our insurer. You can potentially find your own insurance cover for the excess.
Yes. Drivers aged 25 and over can reduce their excess to NZD $0 for an additional daily fee. This option is not available for drivers under 25.
You cannot provide your own insurance in place of ours - we are required to use our own insurer. However, you may be able to find a third-party policy that covers the rental excess separately.
If this was to happen, call us as all our vehicles have breakdown coverage. We will arrange for a tow truck (at no charge to you) to come to your location and we will attempt to put you in a replacement vehicle as soon as we can.
Please note, tyre punctures are treated as an insurance claim, and the excess of your rental agreement will apply.
Drivers under 25 are subject to the standard excess of NZD $6,000 + GST and cannot reduce this amount.

CANCELLATION POLICY
At Apolicar, we understand that plans can change. To provide the highest level of service while maintaining fairness to all our customers, our cancellation policy is as follows:
Standard Bookings (1 Vehicle)
Cancellations Made 7 Days or More Before the Booking Date
Customers will receive a full refund of the booking amount.
Cancellations Made 5–6 Days Before the Booking Date
Customers will receive a 50% refund of the booking amount.
Cancellations Made 4 Days or Less Before the Booking Date
Customers will be charged 100% of the booking amount, and no refund will be issued.
Group Bookings (2 or More Vehicles)
A “Group Booking” is defined as any reservation involving two (2) or more vehicles under the same booking or coordinated reservation.
Due to the significant allocation of fleet and the impact on availability, the following terms apply:
Deposit Requirement
A non-refundable 25% deposit is required at the time of booking to secure vehicles.
Balance Payment
The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to the Booking Date.
Cancellations Made 45 Days or More Before the Booking Date
The booking may be cancelled, however the 25% deposit remains non-refundable.
Cancellations Made 15–44 Days Before the Booking Date
50% of the total booking amount will be charged.
Cancellations Made 14 Days or Less Before the Booking Date
100% of the total booking amount will be charged.
Partial Cancellations (Reduction in Vehicle Numbers)
Any reduction in the number of vehicles within 30 days of the Booking Date will be treated as a cancellation of those vehicles and charged in accordance with the above schedule.
Additional Information
Refunds will be processed within 10 business days to the original payment method.
Changes or modifications to bookings are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.

By completing your booking with Apolicar, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.
FUEL
All vehicles are provided with a full tank at pick-up and must be returned with a full tank. If you return the vehicle with less than a full tank, a refuelling fee will be charged.
The vehicle will have a full tank at pick-up and you will be expected to refuel before returning, unless you chose the Pre-Paid Fuel option with your reservation. If you are not able to refuel before you return the vehicle, then we will do this for you and charge the credit card used for your reservation.
Please note the fuel type, and also check the keyring and the fuel cap.

DRIVERS & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum age is 18 if you have a full drivers license but please note, there is a mandatory excess of $2,800 + GST for any insurance claim. You can choose to reduce this excess only if you are 25 years old or older. Excess reduction is not available for 18-24 year old drivers.
Yes. All drivers must be named on the rental agreement before driving the vehicle. Please include additional drivers at the time of booking. You can add them later via WhatsApp or using Manage Booking on our website.
You will need a valid full driver's licence from your home country. International visitors from non-English-speaking countries may also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). A passport may be required for identity verification.
Yes — additional drivers can be added for a small daily fee, and they’ll enjoy the same insurance coverage. You add additional drivers here.
LUGGAGE & CHILD SEATS
This is a difficult question to answer, as there is no standard size for suitcases, however:
The Land Rover Defender 130 has the biggest boot space, in the 5-seat configuration. In the 8-seat configuration, boot space if very limited.
If you are planning on staying in one place for the duration of your trip, we can offer a luggage transfer service, for an additional charge. We'll meet you at the airport, and follow you to your hotel or Airbnb with your luggage, and then do the same when leave.
Yes. Child seats, infant seats, and booster seats are available as add-ons to your rental. Please request these at the time of booking to ensure availability.
WINTER DRIVING, SNOW CHAINS & 4WD
In winter, snow chains or an approved alternative may be legally required on certain alpine roads - particularly those to ski fields like The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, and Cardrona. All Apolicar vehicles include AutoSocks, a legal, tyre-friendly alternative to traditional metal snow chains.
Yes. All vehicles in our fleet are full 4WD SUVs purpose-built for alpine conditions. Combined with the included AutoSocks, you can navigate challenging winter mountain roads safely and in total comfort.
If you are wanting to drive on unmade roads, this is fine with all the vehicles in our fleet. If you are planning on driving completely off-road, you should consider the Land Rover Defender vehicles, as these are ideally suited. The speed limit for any off-road use (including unmade roads) is limited to 40kmh.
We can recommend a number of safe off-road options so you can experience the capabilities of these vehicles.

ONE-WAY RENTALS & ROAD TRIPS
Yes. A one-way rental from Queenstown to Christchurch is available. Recommended stops along the way include Lake Tekapo, the Tekapo Hot Springs, and the Clay Cliffs at Omarama.
Yes. A one-way road trip rental from Auckland to Wellington is available, passing through some of the North Island's most spectacular scenery.
